AI Agents are the game-changer for SMBs in 2026

The numbers speak for themselves: 73% of Benelux SMBs are actively investing in process automation in 2026, with average time savings of 15 to 30 hours per week. And 84% of Dutch SMBs are increasing their AI investments this year. The question is no longer whether you automate, but how.

From chatbot to autonomous agent

The big difference between 2024 and 2026 lies in what AI can actually do. Classic chatbots respond to questions. AI Agents plan, execute and monitor — without a human needing to approve every step.

An AI Agent could for example: 1. Detect that a customer hasn't been in contact for three weeks 2. Independently draft a personalised follow-up email 3. Send that email via your CRM 4. Register the result and plan the next step

Everything without anyone needing to do anything.

What's production-ready in 2026?

According to recent research, AI Agents in 2026 are fully production-ready for: - Structured data extraction — retrieving information from documents, emails, forms - Classification and prioritisation — automatically sorting leads, tickets, tasks - Summaries — automatically summarising conversations, meetings, reports - Workflow triggers — starting other processes based on events

Multi-step autonomous decision-making (complex negotiations, strategic choices) is still experimental.

ROI: what does it deliver?

Concrete savings for SMBs: - €500 to €2,000 per month in time savings (average 5.6 hours per week per employee) - 300 to 800% ROI in the first year with targeted AI projects and training

How do you start?

The key to success is not the technology itself, but your data. Companies that have their processes and customer data in order get the most from AI Agents. FlowBee helps you lay the data foundation with Zoho as the backbone — so AI Agents are immediately productive.
